Scarves and Sweatpants

These guys look like they're posing in the hall of their high school. And you've gotta wonder why the blond mullethead on the left thought it'd be a good idea to rock the heather gray sweatpants in a band photo. I don't know what the deal with the scarves is, though that may be a clue as to where they're from. Who the fuck is this band?!?

Update: I was starting to think we'd never get this one, but along comes "Nightlock" with the correct answer: Cerebus, from North Carolina. Another New Renaissance band who have found some interest posthumously (in Europe).

I don't know who the band is, but scarves are so two years ago.

It's not Realm, I double-checked, but I can tell you this much -- whoever it is, they have a progressive edge.

Yes, progressive metal bands were always down with scarves. Nice work, Ian.

They look pretty German to me, what with the Scorpions "World Wide Live" tee rocker in the middle and the Wir Sind Helden's keytar player lookalike on the left. That's 'pretty' as in 'kinda', obviously.

Wait a minute: Mysterious 1980s German prog metal... it's Mekong Delta!

Didn't Mekong just have 4 members?

That is to say...

This would have been earlier than Mekong Delta--think '83-'86-ish. Also, my guess is that this band went nowhere, though members may have gone on to other things. This photo looks like something that was sent to me with just a demo. Dunno if that helps any.

Actually, Mekong Delta got together in 1985, the same year World Wide Live was released :O ...and there are in fact 5 Fritz shaped shadows on the back cover of my The Music Of Erich Zann LP. But then again, sending out high school hall promo shots to U.S. fanzines doesn't exactly fit MD's MO, right? I'm sure it's not them ;) Can anyone make out the t-shirt that Skullet Düde is wearing tho?

Another suggestion: anyone with a good collection of old zines--especially Metal Forces--would do well to thumb through the demo sections. My guess is, my zine wasn't the only one they sent their promo photos out to.

Cerebus who later went on to release "Too Late to Prey" I think? I remember the blond mullet and guy with thinning hair from the back cover pictures.

Mystery solved. You are absolutely correct. Nice work. Got any clues about the other two we haven't figured out yet?
